Process

Here are a few screenshots I took whilst I was doing my project to show the process of making my final project.

Inspiration

Saul Bass:

I did my presentation on Saul Bass, and whilst I was during my research, I fell in love with most of his movie posters. I really like how simple they are, and the colours that he used. Here are a collection of posters and screen-shots of title sequences that I found inspiring when making my final project.

The colours red, yellow, orange, black and white, seemed to be reoccurring throughout the posters, therefore I chose them as my main colour scheme in my final project. I also really liked the simplicity of his posters.

Week 6 - Illustrator #2

For week 5 we were asked to produce a storyboard for at least 5 click-through pages of information to be delivered via a portable device. As we are also asked to produce a click-through of information in relation to our final project, I thought it would makes sense to make the one for my final project.

Week 5 - Illustrator

This week we were asked to experiment, using contrasting paris of letter forms, with cropping, scale, contrast, texture, and composition to develop a series of four compositions to be presented as logos.

Week 4 - Photoshop

This week for homework we were asked to create three different story lines using photoshop and images we had found on the internet. With all the pictures I found I had to edit out the background using the background eraser tool, so that all the images had a white background. These are the 3 stories that I made:

Week 3 - InDesign #2

This week we were asked to watch another demonstration video about InDesign, however, this time the video focused more on typography, and the different ways in which InDesign lets you manipulate text. We were asked to use In Design to create 5 different boxes of text, and then merge them all together. This was my final product.

As you can see the 5 different texts are all quite different. I decided to keep a white background as the overlapping of the text made it quite complex already. The first box of text I made was the dark blue one in the top left corner. I decided that I would make it have a "old" look to it, so I made the first letter a lot bigger than the rest of the text, as is traditionally seen in older texts. I chose the colour dark blue as I feel its quite a classic colour, seen a lot during tudor times. The next box of text I made is the red (almost maroon) one in the bottom left. For this one I decided to again go for a slightly older looking font, and more authentic looking. The next box I made was the black text box. As I had realised I was following a "time-line" trend, I decided that the text in the middle should be a timeless classic, so of course I went for the font Helvetica. I bolded the text and kept it black to keep it as neutral as possible. The next box I made was the light pink box in the top right corner. I decided to go for a very spaced out simple look for this text, as I feel like that is what a lot of the more modern text I see looks like. The last text box I made is the green text box, and for this one, as it was supposed to be the "futuristic" box, I decided to go for a font that is made up of symbols. I decided to arrange the boxes in the way I did because I thought it would be boring to do the "time-line" in order, so instead I put the boxes in a composition that I thought worked, and made them over-lap to show the continuance of time.  

Week 2 - InDesign

For week 2's homework we were asked to watch 5 consecutive videos as an introduction to using InDesign. Then to prove that we actually understood what we had just watched, we were asked, as homework, to create 5 pages of graphic designs that we find inspiring. These are the 5 pages that I ended up with. As you can see they are screen shots - I chose to do this as I thought it better showed that I had understood what was being taught in the video (grid lines, boxes etc.)

Whilst researching for graphic designs to include in my experimenting with InDesign I found that I had a particular interest in simplified graphic design. The ones where very few images were used very cleverly to convey the message. I also really liked some of the un-official movie poster designs. I thought that the simplicity and boldness of them was very cunning.
